What is the best way to go with heat pump?

Post by NevinWeeksvip on Fri Jun 07, 2013 2:44 am

Hi there,

I'm looking at changing over my electric hot water system to either a hot water heat pump as referral or solar hot water system & Im after some advice on
which is best.

My mate had a solar hw system quite some time ago &
he said he'd never put one in again. They've probably come a long way
since his system but what do others think?

A heat pump is the most efficient but requires a professional installation. If you live in a colder climate it is the beat way to go if you have the money. Solar hot water panels work in places like Arkansas, Florida, Arizona and the like (Map Link Below). Try the following link to a manual you can buy. My friend bought this manual and built his own, but it cost him more like $400 in parts. You can also get books on how to build them in Barnes and Noble.

Here is a good guide: http://www.solarhotusa.com/pdf/Guide.pdf

Look at this map - The dark grey and medium grey are generally where outdoor solar panels will work fairly well:
